Why Gearloom

A Different Kind of Watch Care

Documented work, returned parts, and an honest word before anything is agreed. Here is what that means in practice.

What You Get with Every Service

Six practical advantages that apply whether you bring in a daily wearer or a treasured heirloom.

Written Work Record

Movement clean and restoration services include a written stage record. You leave with documentation you can keep alongside the watch itself.

  • What was cleaned or replaced
  • Lubricants applied and locations
  • Timing rate on completion

All Parts Returned

Every component we replace comes back to you. For collectors and owners of inherited watches, this continuity of record matters as much as the service itself.

  • Parts identified in written summary
  • Packaged with care for storage
  • Provenance preserved for resale

Agreement Before Work Begins

No work starts until you have read the assessment and agreed to the scope. Replacement parts are confirmed with you individually before fitting.

  • Written condition assessment first
  • Parts match confirmed before fitting
  • No hidden additions to scope

Free Initial Assessment

Walk in with your watch and we will assess it at no charge. You will know what is involved before any cost is discussed. There is no obligation to proceed.

  • No appointment needed
  • Honest picture of the watch's condition
  • No charge if you decide not to proceed

Workshop You Can Visit

The Thonglor Soi 10 workshop is open to walk-ins. You can see where your watch is worked on and discuss the job face to face — no couriers, no uncertainty about who has your watch.

  • Central Bangkok location
  • Walk-ins welcome, Mon–Sat
  • Direct conversation with technician

Timing Note on Completion

Movement clean and restoration services include a short timing record at completion. This gives you a reference point for future services and helps monitor long-term performance.

  • Rate recorded in multiple positions
  • Written for owner's own records
  • Useful baseline for next service

Each Advantage in Detail

Depth of Mechanical Knowledge

Our lead watchmaker has worked on mechanical movements for over fifteen years, covering Swiss lever-escapement movements, Japanese automatics, and a range of vintage pocket watch calibres. This breadth matters because every movement has its own tolerances and its own failure modes. Experience shortens diagnosis time and reduces the chance of an unnecessary replacement.

We do not pretend to work on everything — if a job is outside our scope we say so plainly and will suggest where else to look.

A Process That Holds No Surprises

The most common frustration with watch servicing is not the cost — it is the gap between what was expected and what was charged. Our process closes that gap at the first step. Nothing proceeds without your written agreement, and nothing is added without your confirmation.

Communication at Every Stage

For stem and crown work, the process is brief and the result is usually clear within a week. For full restorations, the timeline is longer and part sourcing can introduce uncertainty. We keep you informed at each stage — not with automated messages, but with a direct note from the workshop.

If something unexpected comes up during the work, we contact you before proceeding. The final charge never exceeds what was agreed unless you have approved a change.

What Only Gearloom Offers

Features of our service that are not standard elsewhere in Bangkok.

Stage-by-Stage Restoration Record

Full restorations come with a written account of each stage — strip-down, part findings, sourcing decisions, and final timing. No other Bangkok workshop provides this as standard.

Returned Parts as Standard

We do not ask whether you want replaced parts — we return them automatically, identified and packaged. For inherited watches, this keeps the full history intact.

Owner Confirms Each Part

Before any replacement component is fitted, we confirm the match with the owner. This applies to stems, crowns, gaskets, and any movement parts encountered during a full service.

Open Workshop, Walk-ins Welcome

You are welcome to come in, sit down, and talk about the watch before anything is agreed. This is a working workshop you can visit — not a drop box with a ticket number.
